What’s in your attic? Channel 4’s Millionaire Hoarders and our new valuations service

Writer: Christopher WhiteChristopher White

Antiques.co.uk is delighted to announce the launch of a new independent antiques, collectables and art valuations service, open to everyone around the world. It means that sellers can find out how much their items are worth - and could unlock previously unknown amounts of equity.

Across Britain, in homes of all shapes and sizes lie astonishing hoards of potential treasures. Their owners have filled their homes with items they’ve acquired, curated, or obsessively collected. But there’s a catch – they have no idea what their items are worth.

This, says Antiques.co.uk owner Iain Brunt, is a driving force behind the launch of a brand new professional valuations service.

Open to everyone, wherever they are in the world, the new service offers fast and simple independently-valued antiques and art. Sellers can then list and sell them commission-free, right here on Antiques.co.uk.

Iain is launching the new valuations service ahead of an upcoming appearance on Channel 4’s ‘Millionaire Hoarders’.

With 40 years of experience in the art and antiques industry, he believes it will help open up the industry beyond just professional dealers:

“When I started selling antiques in the 90s, the only options anyone had were to try and list their items at an auction house. But they take a hefty chunk out of the profits, and unfortunately many of them go unsold. So after that, it’s either car boot sales, or stick it on eBay or Gumtree – without any idea of what it’s worth.

“You don’t want to be that person who sold a dusty old vase for £50 and then find out later that it was worth a fortune.

Iain Brunt is the owner of Antiques.co.uk, and launches the new valuations service with 40 years of experience in the antiques and art markets

“Things have come a long way since I started Antiques.co.uk – but as a global art and antique advisor, I feel that independent valuations are still not freely available online.”

It’s something that has the potential to disrupt the global antiques market: the new service is open to everyone, no matter where they are in the world.

After you’ve received your professional valuations, you can sell your pieces commission-free on Antiques.co.uk, where thousands of people – from interior designers and collectors to dealers and homemakers – are looking for items just like yours, every day.

Starting on Friday 4th August, Channel 4’s Millionaire Hoarders brings together experts in the world of antiques and collectables to sift through homes packed full of potential.

For the very first episode, Iain was asked to identify the artist of this amazing work by William Marlow – which the owner knew nothing about.

Born in 1740, William Marlow specialised in drawing and painting views of London, and magnificent country houses.

Now, his paintings can sell for thousands and are increasingly difficult to find. Iain comments:

“The seller had no idea where this scene was set – because the view was painted before the current Houses of Parliament were even built.”

“It’s been great fun to work with Clive and the team discovering this Old Master. I think the series will be so fascinating to watch and I was honoured to be a part of it. It really makes you think…what’s in your attic?! Maybe you’ve got something really valuable up there. And now you can get it all independently valued on Antiques.co.uk and make some money.”

Watch Iain giving his opinions on Channel 4 (UK) at 8pm, Friday 4th August. He features in the episode with long-time Antiques.co.uk dealer Clive Downham of London Fine Antiques.
